Course Overview:
A highly interactive HI Fidelity simulation course aimed at improving confidence and competence in managing acute illness situations. Enables practice of both technical and non-technical skills in acute medical situations in a safe and non-judgemental learning environment. FY2 trainees will all have the opportunity to access a number of simulation training sessions specific to their training curriculum throughout their respective rotations whilst at UHCW. Attendance at these sessions can be used towards core teaching hours for ARCP. This training is recommended by the National Foundation Training Programme. UHCW trained nursing staff are also welcome to attend.
Target Audience:
Aimed specifically at Foundation year 2 doctors on the National Foundation Training Programme. External applicants or those out of programme can also apply.
This course will also have relevance to UHCW qualified nurses particularly from acute medical wards/ medical admissions unit.
Course Objectives:
To improve confidence and confidence in managing acute medical illness situationsTo practice clinical decision making in acute and potentially stressful situations in a safe, non-judgemental learning environmentReflect on management decisions and treatment options in debrief. Discuss the non-technical skills that may impact on acute situations (leadership, closed loop communication, task management, team work, situational awareness, self-awareness) in debrief Identify strategies to cope with stress and management of acute situations.
