Course Overview:

A recommendation of the National Foundation Training Programme and supported by NHS England. A half day course that focuses on acute illness management and the deteriorating patient. Scenarios are specifically chosen to adhere to Foundation Programme recommendations and curriculum requirements.

The course enables trainees to practice both technical and non-technical skills in a variety of acute medical situations in a safe non-judgemental learning environment.

These sessions count towards your core teaching hours for ARCP. The course is funded by the Deanery for trainees.

Course Objectives:

  • Improve on management skills of the acutely ill deteriorating patient
  • Learn and develop leadership skills in an acute/ emergency situation.
  • Learn strategies to deal with challenging situations
  • Escalate appropriately and in a timely manner to senior staff
  • Allow time for reflection and open discussion post scenario in debrief with relevant experts.
