Lucina (Goddess of Childbirth)

High fidelity Adult manikin (CAE Lucina) – a realistic and versatile female manikin for both normal child birth and emergency scenarios. CAE Lucina allows clinicians to practice pre-partum assessment, labour and delivery, emergency care and transport all within one wireless patient simulator. Lucina has modelled and validated physiology that is integrated with the foetal physiology. Lucina will respond automatically to obstetric manoeuvres and clinical interventions and offers complete training in shoulder dystocia management. Aria

CAE Ariarepresents a seven-year old child and offers a wide range of paediatric training scenarios. CAE Aria’s features allow for realistic training in emergency paediatric care. A wireless and tether less patient simulator that allows learners to perform the following tasks:

  • Comprehensive patient assessment capability ie; pupillary assessment; hi-fidelity heart, lung and bowel sounds; comprehensive breathing assessment; palpable pulses; airway management capability and use of full range of adjuncts

Laerdal SimBaby Classic (2002 Model)

SimBaby is a tethered full body, 6 month old infant manikin that allows simulation of a wide range of skills and assessment. This simulator allows observation and recognition of most vital signs used in emergency medicine either directly on the manikin itself or on the simulated patient monitor. The patient monitor doubles as display for other functions like ECG & X-rays. SimBaby contains an advanced airway allowing for difficult airway management cases; the anatomy can be changed during the scenario to indicate changes to patient’s condition or as a response to participants’ intervention. A variety of airway adjuncts can be used to successfully ventilate the manikin. This manikin is no longer manufactured.

Laerdal SimMan Classic (2002 Model)

SimMan is a full body, adult male manikin that allows the simulation of Basic and Advanced Life support skills and assessment. SimMan’s airway is instructor controlled to allow simulation of various airway complications, including the failure of therapeutic devices. This model is tethered and no longer available from manufacturer.

Adult Meti Human Patient Simulator

High Fidelity adult manikin (METI HPS now CAE HPS) Human Patient Simulator – uses a physiological model to reproduce the responses of a real patient as accurately as possible. The software allows the creation of simulated patients with a huge variety of pre -existing conditions, which will determine the degree and nature of response to any interventions. This manikin also contains lung units that can accurately simulate the volumes, pressures and compliances of real lungs, and will also produce accurate expiratory gas mixes and volumes which can be measured by the anaesthetic machine. This allows the simulation of a range of lung conditions and enables accurate and precise ventilator control. More information can be obtained from:
