Care of Critically Ill Surgical Patient

This two day course is designed to advance the practical, theoretical and personal skills necessary for the care of critically ill surgical patients.
It is aimed at surgeons and those who deal with surgical patients who are completing basic surgical training and will be useful across the range of surgical and related disciplines.

The course is designed to draw established and new knowledge and skills into formats immediately applicable to every day practice. The emphasis is on small group teaching,
hands on training and the performance of practical procedures. The course features simulated patient assessment, clinical decision making, dealing with relatives and analysis of
data in critical care in addition to systematic coverage of the necessary knowledge. Candidates are supplied with a detailed course manual (to keep) and
personal feedback will be provided during the course.

All participants on the course...

• should have completed at least one year of basic surgical training (not including house jobs)
• should have commenced six months general surgery
• ideally have completed an ATLS® course although this is not a
pre-requisite
